A generous amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin provides hydration, elasticity and fullness to the skin. This explains why hyaluronic acid is so often present in cosmetics and why it is also used in anti-aging and aesthetic medicine. Hyaluronic acid can be used in different forms : the natural form or a modified form. Injections of natural hyaluronic acid belong to mesotherapy, also called “skin boosters”, and focus on deep hydration of the skin thanks to the hydrating properties of natural hyaluronic acid. Injections of modified or “cross-linked” hyaluronic acid are used to fill folds or restore volume in the face and are also called “fillers”. The term “cross-linked” refers to the production method of “fillers” which is based on the linking or aggregation of several molecules of hyaluronic acid into a compact, but malleable network that is durable, but also biodegradable
